This is a true story. Several years ago I lived in an apartment on a busy street corner where a bus stop was located. I could look right down onto the people who were waiting for the bus or about to cross the street. Behind the bus shelter was a payphone attached to a small neighborhood deli and when the phone rang, anyone standing nearby could easily hear it. I obtained the number of the payphone and I would watch the people gather at the bus stop and I would call the number hoping someone would answer. I also used binoculars for a close up view and I could see everything crystal clear.
